The New Statesman

The New Statesman (1987-1992 plus two specials, one in 1988 and the other in 1994)

Rik Mayall stars as Alan B’stard, Tory MP, in this black comedy series about British politics. Alan is cartoonishly evil, greedy and immoral and is surrounded by people as ruthless as him. It’s mainly a satire of the Thatcherites of the time.

You expect him to be punished for his many wrongdoings, but the thing is, he always comes out on top. In this series the worst of man wins.

At the end of the fourth series, he manages to be appointed as Lord Protector (like Cromwell) with seemingly dictatorial powers.

The stage show’s continuity is at odds with the series finale and shows that Alan defected to the Labour Party and is now a Blairite.

A taste of British comedy

Mr. Bean? Little Britain? The Office?". La maggioranza non sa nulla di serie tipo Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, Father Ted, The IT Crowd, Black Books o di sketch show come The Armstrong and Miller Show o That Mitchell and Webb Look.

Monty Python’s Flying Circus - Crazy barber and the Lumberjack Song

The Two Ronnies - Four Candles Sketch

Morecambe and Wise - Breakfast Sketch

Not The Nine O’Clock News - I love trucking

Alas, Smith and Jones - Stanley Rogers, film score composer

A Bit of Fry And Laurie - Australian Soap

The Day Today

The Fast Show

Armstrong and Miller - WWII RAF Pilots

That Mitchell and Webb Look - Evil vicar

The One Ronnie - My Blackberry is not working

Ta-ta for now!

Yeah, the world would have been a better place

Hugh Laurie - The Polite Rap di Scorpi_94

Questo è tratto da A Bit of Fry and Laurie, del 1995.

Questo invece, da Russell Howard's Good News, del 2009.

Comic Sans and being funny

The Late Edition
